This Indenture made ye: 24th: day of Septembr In ye: year
of our Lord God 1694 Between Geo: Browne of Yorke County
Cordwinder of ye. one part And Abraham Martin sonn of Abraham
Martin of ye. said County decd. of ye. other part Witnesseth That ye.
said Abraham Martin of his free and voluntary Will hath putt
himselfe Apprentice to ye. said George Browne to learne ye. Science
& mistery of a Cordwinder which hee now followeth And to be
imployed in noe other busines except makeing of Corne for the
family and stocks use, If occasion requires And with him to
dwell & serve after ye. manner of an Apprentice from ye. date
hereof unto ye. full end or terme of six years next ensuing the
date hereof, by all which terme of six years ye. said Apprentice
ye. said Abraham Martin well & truly shall serve, And not to
absent himselfe from his Masters business, dureing his said terme
without liberty from his said Master And ye. said Geo: Browne
to his said Apprentice ye. science or Art of A Cordwinder which
hee now useth shall teach & instruct or cause to be taught &
instructed the best way yt. hee may or can, And alsoe to finde
to his said Apprentice Appell, meat, drinke, washing, lodgeing
convenient for an Apprentice for and dureing ye. terme
aforesaid And att ye. Expiracon of ye. said terme to give ye. said
Abraham Martin a good & suffitient suite of Appell as
followeth One searge Coat & britches, two shirts, one paire
of shoos & stockins & hatt In Witnesse whereof ye ptyes have
hereunto sett their hands & seals ye. day & year above menconed

This Indenture made ye. tenth day of March In ye: year of
our Lord God 1695 Between peter Hannah ye: Natureall sonn
of Margrett Blackey of ye. parrish of Hampton in ye. County of
York widd of ye. one pte And Robert Roberts of ye. pish & County
aforesaid Witnesseth yt. whereas ye. said peter being aged tenn
years about ye. moneth of August last past of his owne free
will & with ye. consent & good likeing of his said mother is hereby
bound an apprentice to ye. said Robert Roberts with him & Mary
his wife or ye. longler liver of them to dwell & serve untill hee
Attaine to ye. age of one & twenty years from thence next
ensuing & fully to be compleat and ended, by & dureing all which
said time & terme ye. said ptyes Covenanteth & agreeth to & wth:
ye. said Roberts his Executors: Admrs: and assignes him ye. said
Roberts his Executors: Admrs: and assignes as his master well &
faithfully to serve his masters secretts hee ye. said Hannah
shall keep his comands lawfull & honest every where hee
shall doe, hurt to his said master hee shall not doe nor consent
to be don, but to his power shall or his master thereof warne
the goods of his said master hee shall not wast nor them to
any rson lend without his masters Lysence, but as a true &
faithfull servant ought to behave himselfe as well in words
as in Deeds, And ye. said Robert Roberts him ye. said peter
Hannah shall indevor: to teach to read English & also soe
soone as hee attaines to age of maturity shall indevor: to teach
& instruct him in ye. Art or trade of a Taylor: which hee the
said Roberts now useth And alsoe shall & will finde and
allow his said Apprentice competent meat drink washing
lodgeing & appell from time to time dureing ye. said terme and att
ye. end or expiracon thereof shall give him double appell one full
suite from head to foot for workeing dayes & ye. other for holy

God of England Scotland France & Ireland King Defendor:
of ye. faith &c Annog Dom. 1695/6 Between Mourning Cooper
daughter & orphant of John Cooper & Elliner his wife late of ye.
County of James Citty & now both decd of ye. one pte And John
Bedford of ye. County of Yorke planter of ye. other pte Witnesseth
yt. whereas itt was ye Will & desire of ye. mother of ye. said Mourning
yt. ye. said John Bedford have ye. keeping & bring of her up shee
haveing alredy now lived with him for ye. space of a year whereof
her owne free will & with ye. approbacon & good likeing of the
Worshipfull Cort: for ye. County of Yorke above said Hath put her
selfe an apprentice to ye. said John Bedford with him to dwell &
serve untill shee attains to ye. age of one & twenty years or day
of marryage which shall first happen from thence next
ensuing & fully to be compleat and ended, by & Dureing all
which said time & terme ye. said Mourning Cooper Covenanteth &
agreeth to & with ye. said John Bedford his Executors: Admrs: and

servant ought to behave herselfe as well in words as in deeds
And ye. said John Bedford doth Covenant and agree for himself
his Executors: Admrs: & assignes to finde & allow his said
Apprentice dureing ye. said terme good suffitient & holsome
and competent meat drinke washing lodgeing & appell to &
for her body meet & convenient And alsoe to ask his said
Apprentice or raise her to be taught in ye. utmost of his endevor:
to read English And att ye. end or expiracon of ye. said terme to finde
& allow her a good new decent suite of Appell from head to foot

I the subscribed doe hereby Certify yt: Katherine Masterson servt:
to John Travillion by Indenture for four years did this day appe
before me and ye. said servant Owning yt. her Master aforesaid
had been att greate charge & trouble in ye Cure of his said Servant
of a distempter shee brought in with her here into this Collony
and in Consideration whereof shee did freely agree before me as
by ye. seventh Act of Assembly in the printed books fol 201
intituled an Act limitting Masters dealing with their servants
is prescribed to serve her said master or his assignes three full
years more after her first time of service is Expired

24 May 1697

This Indenture made ye 24th: day of May 1697 Between
Izraell Swallow of James Citty County of the one part And
Willm Batton with consent of George Baskervile his Unkle
on ye other part Witnesseth yt. ye. said William Batton with
consent of his said Unkle hath bound himselfe Apprentice
and serant to ye. aforesaid Izraell Swallow for to learn the
art & vocation of ye Carpenters trade for ye. full space & terme of
seven years from ye day of ye date hereof dureing ye which time
& space of seven years ye aforesaid Izraell Swallow obleidges him
to teach & instruct ye aforesaid Willm Batton in ye said Art, &
to conceal noe pte or poynt thereof from ye said Willm Batton
but to doe ye utmost of his Indevors: to make him capable of ye same
And likewise ye aforesaid Izraell Swallow bindes & obleidges him to
Entertaine ye said servant and Apprentice with suffitient
Cloathing victualls washing & lodgeing dureing ye aforesaid terme
of seven compleat years And ye lads years being ended and
lawfully pformed by ye. aforesaid Willm Batton the aforesaid
Izraell obleidges him to pay ye said Willm Batton his Apprentice
Corne & Cloaths conformeable to the Custome of this Country and
as other servants are paid for ye which cause ye. aforesaid Willm
Batton with consent of ye said Geo: Baskervile his said Unkle
obleidges him to serve & be obedient to his said master by night
& by day worke day & holy, And not to absent himselfe from his
said masters service without liberty Endureing ye. limitted time
of seven compleat years from ye day of ye date hereof provided
yt if itt shall happen yt. ye said Izraell Swallow may be prevented
by death before ye aforesaid seven years be expired then this
Indenture is declared to be null & voyd for ye future after ye aforesd
Izraell Swallows Death And in like manner ye aforesaid Izraell
Swallow obleidges him to send & keep ye aforesaid Willm Batton
his Indented servant for one Compleat year, endureing ye aforesd
seven years of servitude att schoole In Witnesse whereof both
pties have signed & sealed ye same Interchangably ye day of ye
date aforesaid

This Indenture Witnesseth that Mary Allin of Hampton
pish in Yorke County Virga: orphant hath putt herselfe and
by these presents doth voluntarily & of her owne free Will
putt and binde herselfe Apprentice to John Willms of ye pish
& County aforesaid & Anne his wife And after ye manner of an
Apprentice to serve them from ye day of ye date hereof untill
ye said Apprentice shall Attaine ye age of Eighteen years or
ye day of Marryage which of these shall first be or come
fully to be compleat and ended dureing all which said
tearme ye said Apprentice her said Master & Mistress faithfully
shall serve their Comands in all lawfull imploymt: every
where shee shall willingly obay shee shall not absent her
selfe day nor night from her said Master & Mistress' service
without their leave but in all things behave herselfe as
a faithfull Apprentice ought to doe dureing ye said tearme
And ye said John Willms and Anne his wife in Consideracon
thereof doth hereby obleidge themselves to provide for their
said Apprentice suffitient dyatt, washing, lodgeing and
appell for and dureing ye said terme And for ye true pform
of all and every ye Covenants & agreemts: herein before menconed

God of England Scotland France and Ireland Knight Defender of
ye faith Annog Dom: 1697 Between Hester Glamby whoe
Arrived in Yorke River Virga: ye last fleet in ye ship Sarah Capt
Willm Jeffreys Comander: being a free passinger aged about seventeen
years of ye one parte And Thomas Wootten of ye pish & County of York
Virga: aforesaid planter of ye other pte Witnesseth that ye said
Hester Glamby of her owne voluntary free will and good likeing
hath putt herselfe an Apprentice to ye said Thomas Wootten with
him his Executors: Adminrs: &c to dwell and serve from ye day of the
date hereof unto ye full end and terme of five years, by & dureing
all which said time & terme shee ye said Hester Glamby him
ye said Thomas Wootten &c as her Master well and faithfully
to serve, his secretts shee shall keep, his comands lawfull &
honest every where shee shall doe, Matrimony within ye said
terme shee shall not contract fornicacon in ye house of her said
Master or without shee shall not comitt, hurt to her said Master
shee shall not doe nor consent to be done, but to her power shall
or her Master thereof warne, the goods of her said Master shee
shall not inordinately wast nor them to any man lend without
his lysence, nor from his said Masters service neither by day nor
by night prolong or absent herselfe, but as a good & faithfull servt:
ought to behave herselfe as well in word as in deeds, And ye said
Thomas Wootten for himselfe his Executors: Admrs: & assignes & for every
of them doth Covenant grant and agree to and with ye said Hester
Glamby his servant to find & allow her from time to time & att all
times dureing ye terme of her servitude aforesaid good suffitient
holsome & competent meat, drinke, washing, lodgeing & appell to &
for her body meet & convenient, And alsoe att ye end of ye said terme shall
give & allow his said Apprentice two suits of Appell one for working
days And ye other a new searge Gowne & pettecoat two new white flaxon
lining shifts white new head lining two new pr of womens french
falls one pr of new woollen & one pr new worsted hose In Witness
whereof ye ptyes abovesaid to this prsent Indenture their hands & seals

is by these presents bound an Apprentice to John Alstein of
ye said pish & County after ye manner of an Apprentice with
him to dwell and serve from ye date of these presents untill
shee shall Attaine to lawfull age or marriage which shall
first happen, By & dureing all which said time & terme shee
ye said Ann Allin him ye said John Alstein as her Master well &
faithfully to serve, his secretts shee shall keep, his comands
lawfull & honest every where shee shall doe, fornicacon in ye
house of her said master or without shee shall not comit, hurt
to her said Master shee shall not doe nor consent to be done, but to
her power shall or her master thereof warne, ye goods of her
said master inordinately shee shall not wast, nor them to any
man lend without his lysence, nor from her said masters service
neither by day nor by night prolong or absent herselfe, But as

a years schooling upon his said servant And likewise dureing
ye time of her servitude to finde & provide for his said servant

appell, And likewise att ye expiracon of her servitude aforesaid
shall give her a good new suite of Cloathes from head to foot
as lining woollen stockins, shoes &c together alsoe with a Cow
Calfe A three year old heiffer with their increase to her, her
Executors: Admrs: & assignes for ever In Witness whereof ye pties
abovesaid have hereunto to sett their hands & seals ye day &

Anno Dom: 1697 Between Anna Wilson of ye. one part & Robt
Leightonhouse of ye other part Witnesseth yt. ye said Anne
Wilson not only of her owne Will but alsoe with the
Approbation and good likeing of ye Worshipfull Cort: of
Yorke hath putt and bound herselfe as a servant unto
the said Robert Leightonhouse his heires Executors: Admrs:
or assignes And to serve from ye day of ye date of these prsents
untill shee shall arive att ye Compleat age of one & twenty
years or ye day of Marryage on eyther thereof which said day
shall first happen all which said terme & time, shee
shall faithfully serve as a true and faithfull servant
unto ye said Leightonhouse heires &c & all his dureing ye like
time and for and consideracon of her true service as
aforesaid ye said Leightonhouse heires &c doth hereby
obleidge himselfe heires &c to teach & instruct or cause to
be taught & instructed ye said in reading sewing kniting
spining within ye said time And att ye end & expiration
of ye said time to give & allow or cause to be given & allowed
